roblindsay
Hello to all on this forum, and thank you for any help you can give us. We have a 96 Outback 2.2L w/ 132k miles. Wife was driving to school, 40 mph, temp gauge goes wild. Pulls over, it cools down. Drives again, later that day, it happens again. mechanic said the rad. was cracked, $600. Day later same problem -- the car drives fine for miles, then temp shoots up. new mechanic is flushing coolant, pressurizing coolant, driving the car. it's fine. No, it's not. overheating at highway speeds. no hydros in the coolant. But coolant WAS in the oil last year.very strange, he says. never seen anything like it. BTW, the car has thrown out the code for cylinder 3 misfire intermittently for years. Is it haunted or just a head gasket? and if so, which type should be used and most inportant, is it worth it to put another $1200 into this car? Appreciate your help! xrturbo
sounds like a head gasket to me. $1200 sounds steep at those prices you would probably be better off with a good used motor.
