February 5, 200620 yr I have an '03 Forester with 70K miles on it. Owner's manual says to replace timing belt at 105K miles, but I read in a Chilton manual that timing belt on 2.5 L engine should be replaced at 60K miles. Whom should I believe? How difficult is it to change?
February 5, 200620 yr the newest 2.5 L i've owned was a 1998 and the dealer confirmed the 105k interval (i was incredulous as the longest interval i had ever heard of was 60k). i don't think it's too difficult provided you know how to work on cars. regards, gregg

How difficult is it to change? well being that the owners manual is produced by the manufacturer (Subaru), i would believe it more than i would a "(dis)repair manual that is produced by an outside company.
