Does an open intake give you more power?

Featured Replies

Hi, i have a 93 leg and was wondering if i got a open intake, if it would give me more power that i would acually feel, and what a some other cheap affective ways of getting more power?

It really depends on where the intake is going to be placed. If near the engine or in the engine compartment exposed to all that hot air, it will prolly lose power. Now if you have a cold air induction (a real one) wether it be boxed off in the engine bay w/ a cone in it, or in the fenderwell it will provide gains. You will not feel these gains but it will make the engine sound cooler. I wouldn't really worry about making a few more hp with your 2.2l. If anything get a drop-in K&N.

Now all this being said. Plugs, wires, and clean intake will maintain the power you should be making and increase your mpgs and smoothness of the engine. Your engine will be happy and so will you.

If your thinking exhaust will help, it wont help all that much. In order to get true gains out of an exhaust sytem you have to be putting more air into the engine. Think: more air in = more air need to be pushed out. A simple intake will not fit that equation. Exhaust is expensive unless you go to a shop and have them bend some pipe. But, its prolly not mandrel bent and your not really doing anything but wasting $$
