What should be the right rpm for 97 outback

Featured Replies

Here is what I got:

3000rpm at 60mph

3500 rpm at 70mpph

3750 at 75mph

4000 rpm at 80mph

It increases almost linearly with the speed at the 5th gear. I knew my nissan altima run about 3000rmp at 75mph. Is my number right or it is high just because it provides a larger torque?

Thanks,

engine size i thight might help but i would say that is high with any engine. i would guess a spark plug is bad or wire, also maybe its a bad tachometer but if it doesn't have a check engine light on i would guess its nothing to worry about. check your gas mileage next time which would tell you if something is seriously wrong. good luck let us know what it ends up being

Those RPMs are fine. They put a short 5th in the 97s so you can tow trailers and the like.

All 97 OBWs are the same way.
