i took the instrument cluster off tonite to see if i had a loose wire connection to the fuel gage and now after getting it all back in place i turned the car on and the fuel gage told me i had a full tank ( which i dont have) on the drive home it fluxuated a couple of times down to 1/2 tank and then back up. any advice. has anyone encountered this before? let me know it has me pretty freaked out. jeff

Sounds like the sending unit is failing. I believe this happens if you buy bad gas which eats away on the unit so maybe if you switched gas stations it might fix it. If you keep track of your mileage with your trip it really isn't needed and I believe the warning light will still function like normal when you’re low since it’s works with a different mechanism. also a second thought maybe when you disconnected the fuel gage it messed up something and got resetting to full when though it isn't maybe next fill up will fix that or resetting the ecu by taking the batter cable off and then back on.

Good luck

both sensors are new as of today. gas gauge was still messing up so i thought maybe a wire was loose or bad...nothing appeared wrong put it all back together and BLAM! full tank..( i wish it was that easy some times) i will fill up in the morning and maybe that will reset it. thanks...any other advice would be great too. jeff
