2.2L 1990 Subaru Legacy Timing Belt

Recommended Posts

Hi, I have a broken timing belt and have removed and installed a new belt and vehicle does not start. I am sure that the instructions I had were for replacing a worn belt and not a broken belt. I aligned the marks to the timing case marks and installed the belt but realize that I don't know what cycle the cams are at (intake or exhaust) and the crank. I assume when the mark is up it is piston one up as i checked and it is but is it to fire or exhaust. In others words I am lost!!! Any help sure would be appreciated to reset the cams and crank. Well maybe I found the error using search. I have been aligning the crank with the arrow to the mark at the top. I do not have marks on the case to match the cams with so I have been using the timing belt marks as they line up at the top to. I just found where Legacy777 states that using the arrow on the crank gear is wrong which is what I have been doing so now I will see if I can find this mark on the back of the timing gear. Let me know if I am heading in the right direction. Thanks Steve
