Should I buy? 88 GL Wagon

Featured Replies

Looking on craigslist I found a 1988 GL Wagon 5 speed D/R. I emailed the guy says it runs well. He said he just drove it 3 hours to a skiing trip. He also told me that theres some rust on it but nothing to deter it from being inspected. He has no pics posted of it so I have no idea what it looks like and theres 120k miles on it. He wants $500

I found that last night, emailed him and he said that it had been sold. If it wasnt sold I wouldve bought it in a second.

Being from PA originally, I know that when someone says " some rust " on a 15-20 year old Japanese car in that state, you have to watch out. I don't see cars with nearly the rust issues out here in Kansas City that I did in PA. Of course, that was a while ago too. I'd be slightly cautious of an old PA Soob with some rust. But, for $500, you really don't have much to lose. Depends on how long you want to keep in on the road. Inspectable today could mean non in a year or two if it is bad enough now. I'd want to get up under the car and look at the critical stuff like suspension mounts and stuff like that. I've seen some scary structural rust on Subarus in my PA days...

Yeah I know what you're saying. The car is actually located in New York, right outside NYC. I know it doesnt make much difference but I am waiting to see if he can take pictures of the car to make a final decision on whether to g up there or not.
