The Care and Feeding of a Turbo...

Featured Replies

I've always been told to avoid cars with turbocharged engines because they supposedly wear out faster and require more maintenance. Is this true? What are some things I can do to keep my EA82T Loyale with 131K running smooth and strong?

Regular oil changes with good oil and a factory filter. Turbo's beat the living piss out of the oil (Turbo's spin at roughly 100000 RPM) so make sure you change every 3000 miles and use a high quality oil that is turbo approved. Also, don't drive hard and then shut off the car. Make your last five minutes of driving easy (Don't let the turbo "come on") or let it idle for a minute before shutting down. That is a good start. Also, make sure your radiator isn't all blocked up(Between the fins) and still has all it's fins.

Thats about all I can think of for you right now.

290 k on my turbo wagon now, its all original even the turbo.. just take care of her and she'll take care of you..

i run castrol 10w40/20w50 and 1/4 quart of MMO (marvel mystery oil)

i had to do the heds on my 132,000 mile motor with a floppy crank. i am running 5w30. the single row radiator keeps it in the right temp range. just got to work the bugs out of the mpfi itself
