I am a little confused. Maybe it's because I am using a Chilton's manual. My 1993 Impreza has labels under the hood saying the motor is a 1.8 liter engine (EJ18). I am working on the timing belt section. It has just one long 211 tooth timing belt. Chiltons manual shows the 1.8 engine with two belts and the 2.2 looks just like my motor with one belt. Is the manual wrong, or is it possible somebody put another engine in?

the two belt system the manual shows is from the EA-82 motor thats also a 1.8

 

your single belt 1.8 is a EJ-18. i'm pretty certain the 1.8 and 2.2 single belt systems are for the most part, the same.

You have the wrong manual for the EJ18. The one you have is for an EA82 engine, also a 1.8L. You may be able to use the EJ22 section for your car.
