EGR valve not hook up

Featured Replies

ok all whats the EGR valve for? what fuctune does it provide and does it hurt not to have it hook up? i notice that mine wasn't hook up today when i was hunting down a vacuum leak for my defroster. took me a while to hunt down what the part was but find what it funtune was. anyone know?

The EGR system injects exhaust gas into the intake charge under cruising/light load conditions. The exhaust gas displaces and disperses the fuel/air mixture to reduce combustion temps and the formation of NOx gases. It also reduces detonation.

Whether it actually affects performance has been argued several times on the board, with good reasons why or why not covered, as well as how to block it off.

I don't think there was ever a conclusion, but mine hasn't been working for several months and I can't tell any difference.

theres been a ton of discussion on this topic in the supraforums (my other baby)

basically aside from cleaning up the engine compartment... removing the egr valve usually doesnt yield much for performance gains but your engine will run much better.. 2 cents deposited

also if you have to go through emissions... it is technically illegal to remove systems related to emissions control...
