turbo legacy sounds/ gas mileage survey

Featured Replies

she's on the road again and i am so in love--- i have been missing her so much...

one-two question(s):

what does the BOV/Wastegate assembly consist of and do they usually sound really loud?

mine is extremely noisy; spools at 2500 rpm and you can hear all the whirring and a BOV-type sound but i don't really know if this is normal because ,most stock cars don't have such a hiss (might i add, a veryyyyy sexy sound).

My turbo legacy is 100% stock, 94 Sport Sedan 5 Speed, Agean Blue (if you were curious) and newly painted/bodyworked. has a few small holes in muffler but you could point out the location of the turbo from inside the car by just the noises.

while i'm at it; what are average gas mileages for this vehicle?

My 94 turbo is an automatic :-\ so it spools and 'blows off' a little more of it's own will than I'd like. The turbo is noticeable but definately not loud and I think I've only heard the BOV about twice. The stock unit seems to be mostly silent as far as I can tell.

Gas mileage is about the only thing I dislike about my turbo. It's completely atrocious. on a good day we see around 20mpg with ALL HIGHWAY. I can't even bring myself to talk about the in-town mileage because I'm likely to cry or something.:rolleyes:

I have a 91 Legacy ss, 5spd manual. Turbo is noticable, but not noisey.

I have checked mileage on every tank (8-10 tanks so far), pumped from the same station and same pump. The lowest around town has been 19.5 with a heavy right foot, Highway is 31.1 driving 65 mph with a couple of bursts to 80 mph. Average around town with gentle driving has been in the 22 to 23 mpg.

I was amazed at the 31.1 figure.

I live at over 7000' alt.

I live in fort collins, about 5000 ft up, and so far i've gotten 200 miles and i have a quarter of a tank, i'm kind of scared about this. I always have my 86 22RE p/u if i need it but thr tleg seems to be killing the fossil fuel.

that's what i thought about the turbo. Mine sounds like my friend's TSI that has a VF34 turbo on it.. it sounds like it's mad boosted. was wondering if my turbo's been atmosphered, but everything looks to be like it's still recirculated.

thanks for the input.
