Can you disable the Alarm

Featured Replies

I have a 1998 Outback and it keeps disabling my ability to start it at the worst possible times. It appears there used to be an override button or switch so the dealer told be when I was standed to expose the two wires and touch them to do the override. That does work, but is a pain. My wife had to do it once and that is why I'm trying to figure out how to disable it permanently! Any help would be appreciated.

remove / disconnect the brain to the alarm

I am not 100% certain on the 1998's

it is likely inside of the dash on the drivers side

remove the dash cover and have a look

Is it a factory alarm?

On my 97, there's a black box about 10 inches above the left foot rest pad, under the dash. It's a black square box around 5 inches across mounted on the left side of the firewall, under the dash. THere should be 2 connectors going into the top of the unit, one with 1/2 dozen wires and one with about dozen or so. Disconnect the big jack and that should disable it.

It's been a while since i disabled mine cuz it's was making the flashers blink after a dead battery.

If you disconnect the brain won't it just not start?

Doesn't the wire for the clutch switch pass through the brain so it won't start while the alarm is engaged?

Not sure about this but I'd think you'd have to reconnect the clutch switch after you disconnect the brain.
