Will an EA81 or EA82 fit into a gen 1 4wd wagon?

Would the 81/82 bolt right up? or are the mods needed? I thougt about transplanting my Lt1 into the gen 1, but it's too big. Showing my ignorance here, what's an EJ25? Thanks.

Ea82 is wider than a EA81. Ive heard of people having to modify their frame rails to fit a EA82 into their EA81 vehicle. I think the engine bay of a Gen1 is even smaller than that of a Gen2, so Im not sure a EA82 will fit right.

 

The EA81 should work. I believe you'll need the engine crossmember from a 1981 Brat (Gen1 with 1800) for it to bolt right up.

I'm getting close to test fitting an EA81 into my '78 Brat. I'll let you know if the steering rack has to be swapped or if its doable with a stock rack.

EJ25 is what they use in a majority of the newer subarus. Its what the STi uses.
