Interval Wipers Not Working

Featured Replies

I was wondering if anyone has had a similar experience with their interval wipers not working. On the interval setting nothing happens but the other settings work properly. Is this a problem with the switch or the wiper motor? I noticed that www.1stsubaruparts.com lists an Intermittent wiper module - could that be to blame and if it is where would I find it on a 99 Forester?

Thanks

You say "the other settings work properly". If that means the wipers work at both low and high speeds, and that they park correctly at the bottom of the windshield (no matter where in the cycle you shut them off), then the wiper motor is okay. If so, then it would seem that the problem could be with either the switch or the interval/intermittent wiper module, or a connection between them; the switch, of course, makes the connection necessary for the intermittent function, and the module "pulses" the motor to initiate the periodic sweeps.

On my OBW, I can hear a relay "click" each time a sweep is initiated in the intermittent mode.

Sorry, but I don't know where the module is located on the Forester.

On the Forester, this is all in the switch assy. There is NO separate module. Also the L has a set delay, the S model it's adjustable. So there are 2 different part numbers.

If you have a L model, you can spend the extra few dollars and install the S model wiper switch assy. It will give you the variable delay option instead of the fixed delay.

Simple to replace, lower the steering wheel (lowest tilt position), remove the stalk assy covers (2 or 3 screws from the bottom). Take the top & bottom apart (they are clipped together and sometimes need a little persuasion to separate them). Then unplug the wiper switch and remove the 2 screws holding it in place.

Done it a few times....maybe take you 15 mins tops the 1st time you do it.
