Switching engine from 1.6L to 2.0L, 1998 Impreza

Featured Replies

Hi.

My Impreza 1998 1.6L (EJ16) engine's dead, and I'm going to buy a used 2.0L (EJ20) engine.

Does anyone know if the EJ20 engine fits? Is it possible to use the injection system/module and electronics from the 1.6L (EJ16) engine?

Engine now: 1.6L Artica EJ16 66kW

New engine (maby): 2.0L EJ20 85kW

It should bolt in, to your original tranny and all that. But I dunno much about overseas EJ's, so I can't give you any wiring advice or anything like that.

But mechanically, yes it should bolt in.

You'll probably want to include the ECU as part of the swap.

Over here we do a similar swap with an EJ18 and an EJ22, most people just swap the intake so that they can run on the old ECU. I can't guarantee that it will work in your case, but it works for our senerio.
