Do I need this stuff???

I did search around but geese what does this awful thing do, really?

I can see the need for a water trap but this sucker has 3 canceris blobs on it.

There are no sensors on the pipe. Was thinking about keeping the stock air filter box, toss filter. And get a uni cold air kit.

It's a resonator box.

A lot of people do remove it, which gives the car an agressive intake growl.

The main issues with removing it is the air intake is a little lower, and could cause water ingestion if driving in high water. Also, all the piping can be tuned to help reduce a bogging feel when the accelerator is floored. However most people don't really notice it.

If you've removed it, and you like the way the car feels, you'll be good.

Water intake; I'm currently pulling the engine out of a 2005 Baja which choked on water. Even with the box in, it injested enough water to trash the engine.

This is the tall version of the Forest and My Mom doesn't drive in 3feet of water, should be fine. Intake hose is more then waist hi. And the only thing deep I drive it in is snow ;). Man I love snow and AWD. Doesn't matter how deep it is, drive as slow as ya want n it just plows through.

Other reason is I hate the stock air box. Getting the filter back in and the boxed close is darn near impossiable. Can't get the right cornor to shut, like it wont snap together right.
