RickOregon
I've got a transaxle with a crack near the drain plug that I removed from our '87 GL-10 pushbutton 4x4 5sp turbo wagon. Wanted to strip off some parts for spares. How do I separate the transfer case from the transaxle. I've got the bolts out, but it doesn't seem to just pull off. What should I do? Thanks for any insights. Note: I did a search on transfer case, but didn't find anything. Rick
GLCraig
take the inspection plate off of the top of the transfer case. You will then need to remove the shift fork. After that take off the tail housing which includes the output shaft. Then you will need to take out the drive gear that on the main output shaft of the transmission. The nut that holds that gear on usually takes a thin-wall socket to get it off. It's 32mm socket if I remember right.
RickOregon
Thanks for the instructions. Appreciate that. Do you know -- are there any exploded views of the transfer case and transaxle available? Would be helpful for putting the case back together. Rick
