Leafs and and stuff in heating system

Featured Replies

Hi in my 91 legacy (LHD) I have tree leafs behind the vents of the heating system. I tried to remove the vent things using a screwdriver but was not succesfull. Maybe do i have to apply just more force to get them out or is it impossible to get them out.

Then secondly how can i prevent this from happening again. In my old fiat panda i used like musquito netting witch worked perfectly:grin: . Can i put this on the heater air intake, where ever it is located.

The intake is the area below the windscreen and wipers.

You can remove the entire plastic shroud and fit your own net there. I think they had these from the factory, but it may have rotted away.

The side vents can be pulled out, the ones in the center of the dash cannot. If there are leaves stuck in there switch the fan to full blast, that'll press the leaves all the way up to the vent. You can pull them out with a pair of tweezers.

Do i have to remove the wipers from the complete housing to remove the plastic shroud?

I'd be very surprised if the leaves made it past the evaporator (assuming you have a/c).

You can remove the glove box, and the blower motor (3 screws), which should give you access to the evaporator box to be able to pull the leaves and stuff out.

There is a nut under a rubber plug. Remove that plug, loosen the nut, and you can remove the wiper arm. That will allow you to remove the plastic shroud, which can be a bit of a pain to remove.

Sorry no a/c in holland whas an option, saves up that too expensive gasoline.

Then yeah....you could have leaves further up the system....

However that should make getting at things easier. There should be ducting/box behind the glove box. If you can remove that, you should be able to access the ducting from the motor to heater core. You may not be able to get everything, if something went past the heater core, but you should be able to check things out before.
