I took my oil pump apart.. does that spring in the oil pump back in with the FAT SIDE UP OR FAT SIDE DOWN??? INTO THE PUMP p0lease help

The keep your subaru alive book says to install the small ball and spring with the wide end towards the outside. I have replaced pumps.....but never taken apart. Hope this helps:D

is there supposed to be a bal bearing under the spring... ? if so I dont have one!!!!
