85 gl overheat.. h20 pump/bearings to blame

Featured Replies

well i just rolled the odometer over to 200k on my 85 subie wagon gl, d/r 4wd. (shes still just a baby) however, the bearings on the water pump bit the dust. its got a digital dash and the temp gauge only works when it wants to.. so as i was driving down the freeway i had no idea it was gettin toasty. as i got to my exit, i got off the freeway and my subie died in the middle of the intersection. i pushed it into the lowes parking lot and popped the hood.. smoke everywhere and a broken clutch fan blade, crack in the hood.. the entire fan/pulley all fell out as a solid unit and the bearings had literally exploded.. i pulled the radiator already and am gonna need a new one, as the fan took a good size bite out of it.. and i'm gonna need to pull the ac radiator to get the rest of this fan out from there.. so how big of a headache am i looking at to replace everything? i've heard water pumps are no fun on these.. any tricks up anyone's sleeves?
