Vancouver, BC trip tonight ...

Featured Replies

... well, Oh-Dark:30 tomorrow, Whitefish to Port Roos, then swing up to Cranbrook and back down to the border highway through the Rockies.

Anything we musn't miss along the way?

We're staying at the Guilford Sheraton, where the Pretty One will be at a Hula Ho'oiki (workshop) for three days, and I will just be goofing around Vancouver, and maybe a day trip somewheres. Suggestions are welcome.

Also looking for a wrecking yard where I might find a pair of doors for the Barbie jeep ('95 Sidekick/Tracker ragtop).

Follow-up edit:

Does anyone know it there's a market in Vancouver that stocks Vegemite, in the real size (1/2 litre or so) jars? All we can find in AB is those silly little 'sample' size jars. And of course NO place in the US stocks Vegemite.

That little jar is about the biggest you will find in Canada. You might try asking around one of the Youth Hostels in Vancouver if there are any Aussies that know of a source of larger jars. I would try the Jericho Hostel, it is a good excuse to get down to the beach!

Great fruit stands along Highway 3. The Old Grist Mill in Keremeos is pretty cool, if you are into old tech and organic farming.

There is a provincial park (I'd have to look it up) just south of Radium Hot Springs (I think thats the name of it) Its not well marked off of the highway but if you go up this dirt road with a lot of sharp rocks in it and follow it up about 3-4 miles, there is a wide spot in the road with a potty. Walk down the path and there are some nice natural hot spring pools down there.

Some guy I met at a B&B in Calgary told me about it.

Maybe it was just extra cool since I was super ready to be out of the car!

:)

Are you coming back the same way? If you came through Cranbrook, you probably came through (or near to) Nelson. I'll be around pretty much all week, be nice to say hi.

Thanks for the link, carried by COURIER? Ye Gods! Anyhow, I've contacted them for clarification. None of the Vancouver area stores carry Vegemite, only Marmite, ecccch ... disgusting stuff.

Via mail I think. I'll keep an eye open 'round here but we're a little off the beaten path. Good luck in your search, it is definitely an acquired taste!
