I recently had a tranny swap done to my car. It was an automatic and I had it converted by a shop(rallitek) to a manual. Well the swap was great, and it shifts perfect. But heres mine(and the shops) problem. I cant get the rpm past 4500. It throws an engine code, something about the speedo. And yes the speedo does not work. They tried to wire the speedo directly to the ecu, but that is not working and that might be the problem. They are kinda stumped and need some time to think about it, but I was wondering if anyone here had any ideas about it. It was done to a 99 sus legacy. Any input or things we could try would be very helpful.

Have they checked the vehicle speed sensor? I believe that is in the tranny and if its bad, it'll make the speedometer not work and will throw a code for a VSS. Also, you say it puts the CEL on. What code do you get when it's pulled? That should help determine the problem right there.

when i did my engine / trany swap into my wagon. i had the same problem, whoever had the car before me put one of those clips on the VSS wire to tap into it for something... well long story short, it broke the wire inside the plastic and through a VSS code, and would not rev up. once that was fixed it runs like a dream now.
