September 15, 200619 yr Well, power is nice. Very nice. I mean my 2.2l non turbo sure pushes my wagon good, but a turbo would be cool. Now, i saw some engines on ebay with the ecu, tcu, the engine, tranny, diff and everything. Now if i drop in these combos, are there any known isssues with a turbo engine. Now i like my 4EAT, they seem more reliable. SO it will stay 4 speed auto. Now is there anything else thats needs to be changed? Are these engines reliable? But there not EJ22 it says EJ 20, is there a 2.2 turbo?
September 15, 200619 yr Author gotcha, how long have those engines been known to last? Anything usually go wrong?
September 16, 200619 yr I've seen pics of a EJ22T on an original engine with over 400k miles. They last forever - if you take care of them and don't beat them too hard.
September 16, 200619 yr Author OK, well my non turbo 2.2l is going fairly smooth, so at this moment in time i probably wont get a EJ22T from a junkyard. But how can i test these engines if i find one, and i guess i need to change the tranny and diff right? Or will my tranny work?
September 16, 200619 yr Argh, Eric, you have more posts than I do, yet seem to know less about your own car than I do. Searching would help you immensely. Any EJ series transmission will work with any EJ/EG series engine. That includes: EJ18, EJ22, EJ22T, EJ25, EJ257, EZ30, EG33. You don't need to change the tranny. If the car's in the jy, just see if it'll start. Or, the jy should be able to do a compression test on the engine - this will ensure its integrity.
September 16, 200619 yr ^^^^^ agree compression check if it's in the car, or just try to turn it over. At worst it could need rebuilt and maybe only as bad as head gaskets or nothing at all. Good luck finding an ej22t in a junk yard though.o oh yeah the ej20 if it's a usdm motor is probably a ej205 which is the usdm 02-05 wrx block. A good motor in stock form with stock td04 turbo, very reliable that way. They can hold some power though. Ask me how i know:)

Now for some reason That seems a little bit rude, I'm not in a position to be lecturing but Please don't put people down, Some people just don't know, some people are new to this and are asking questions, I'd say 599 of my posts are asking questions, and now I know the basics of working on any subaru. now I come here for advice and help on any sticky situation I may come across.. Sorry for the rant. Zach
September 16, 200619 yr Not to take this further off-topic, but at least he's dredging up a lot of topics to be refreshed, providing a lot more search material ;o)

Sorry for the rant. Zach Mmmph. You forgot the second sentence.Searching would help you immensely I hate to be the search hound sometimes, but I feel like once or twice a week we cover the same thing. There's a difference between asking questions about situations you come across and asking questions about things that have been covered before. We have this problem on the BBS all the time, but imo, the vBulletin search function is far more powerful than the phpbb one, so I very much endorse its use. Now [/off topic]. Turbo cars in the jy are hard to come by though. Usually they're there because the tranny was toast, which means getting the car back could be a pita.
September 16, 200619 yr Author OK, guys i understand it will bolt up to my tranny, im worried, that my tranny will be garbage in another 20k because when u have a turbo engine will it need a upgraded diff? tranny? stabilizer bars?brakes? drive shafts? Are all these going to be ok? I still want this car to be reliable.
