alternator doin wierd things

Featured Replies

well, when the car is sittin idle you can crank everything on, lights, heater, stereo, etc and the alt charges fine.. you can rev teh engine and no change..

but as soon as you start rolling it drops to about 10 amps.. doesn't matter if you turn verything off or not..

i can't figure it out, i have it grounded in 2 different places, and even swapped the xt6 alternator for the stock one, and no change..

any ideas??

Tony you say

"but as soon as you start rolling it drops to about 10 amps.. "

I think you may mean "volts"

Take the fusible link that is nearest the strut tower out and clean it's connections.

This link feeds the alt output into the cars electrical system

Hope this helps

well, figured it out after quadruple checking everything, the ground wire on the block was loose, i could barely move the connector so it wasn't real loose, but i guess loose enough to make a bad ground.. torqued it with my torque wrench and all is fixed.. :drunk:
