i have a 1997 Impreza Outback Sport. will a bolt on hitch from a 99 Outback Wagon fit?

 

it does not fit a 99 Legacy Sedan or an 03 Legacy Wagon if that helps at all.

I assume you the 99 is also an impreza outback? If yes, and according to u-haul.com's website (they sell hitches) both cars would take the same hitch.

 

You could also call or email http://www.subaruparts.com and see if it is the same part number. I'd say as long as the body is basically the same, it would probably work. but if you're going from 99 outback legacy to 97 Impreza, probably not.
