October 7, 200619 yr The engine stops running. It's a non-interferance engine, so it won't hurt the valves or anything, you just put new belts on & go. -=Russ=-
October 7, 200619 yr If you don't replace the belts, they will eventually break. Each Cam has its own belt and if the belt for the driver's side breaks, the engine will stop running. If the belt for the passenger's side breaks the engine will either run on 2 cylinders or it will stop running. The EA82 engine in your Loyale is a non-interference engine so your pistons and valves will not be damaged when a belt breaks.
October 8, 200619 yr ok just for my own knowledge..what year did subaru start making interference engines. My older sis has got an 01 outback and i wonder if her engine is interference or not. Are all newer subys intereference?

Are all newer subys intereference? From my recollection of other threads, there seems to be some debate with 95s (or was it 96s?), but 97 and up should all be interference.
