October 11, 200619 yr What's the best way to strip paint from a car? Media blasting, sanding, chemicals? Thanks. BT
October 11, 200619 yr I have found that a combo of chem stripping and blasting to be a good way to go.I like to use the Aircraft stripper and let it sit there about 1/2 hour and then scrape off the excess. Then at that point if there is alot of paint left I would probly do that same thing again and then start the blasting.
October 12, 200619 yr Acid dipping is the way to go. I used to do it at a job I used to have. One word, Amazing! I have seen it used on cars. It gets in and gets the crap out. Just cant leave it in too long or it will eat the metal but, it works very good.
October 12, 200619 yr Author Thanks for the tips. Let's say I found a 50k mile rust-free Southern California car with a great interior and a perfect body. It's really cheap but it was given a terrible respray. What's the best way to strip the body? Door jambs and engine bay are still nice and original.

If there's no bodywork that has to be done, sand it down using a orbital sander and some 150 grit sandpaper. Then have it primed, then blocked out, then primed again, then painted. If its going back to the original color, then the jambs don't have to be touched. Probably one of the easier ways to get the body nice and perfect, plus, cleaner and probably cheaper then having it stripped.
