EJ22 Flywheel

Featured Replies

hey guys,

Since my liberty wagon needs new throw out bearing, I've decided to replace the clutch & throw out bearing at the same time over christmas, but I want to machine the fly wheel, but over christmas - near year period there is no chance that there would be a place open to do that, so I am looking for a 2nd hand fly wheel to machine now ready to go in while I do the clutch.

Is EJ22 AWD & FWD fly wheels both the same? Are there any better fly wheels that would be recommeneded in EJ22? (ie. if EJ20 flywheel better than EJ22?)

Thanks

Cheers

AP

From what I recall it isn't recommended to resurface the flywheel,to thin or something.might search that out and make a decision. John

From my research it seems that only a EJ22 or EJ18 flywheel will work with the 22, im doing a 2.2 swap inplace of a 1.8 and im just going to resurface my old 1.8 flywheel be cause i can't find any good aftermarket flywheels for the 2.2, i would like to go for a lighterwieght aluminium one but they all seem to be for the 2.5 or 2.0 not 2.2.

Keep me posted if you find a good replacement.

Good Luck

Pete

Righto - Again now I am hearing different stories about flywheel being resurfaced - Subaru said get a new one as if you resurface it you'll muck it up - I didnt want to ask for the price because I am scared!

Reason why - last time I replaced the clutch on my previous subaru, i had a small shudder at specific rpm (i forget what RPM) and clutch place asked me if i have new or machined fly wheel - i said no - they said that is the problem.

I dont want that to happen again on my newish subaru.

Thanks

AP
