Cabin Air Filter

Featured Replies

2001 Forester purchased new, didn't go for the cabin air filter option. While poking around under the dash and doing some research online, found directions on how to replace cabin air filters in Foresters.

Looked under my dash and found the housing for them.

Can it really be as simple as buying the filters and popping them in ? :brow:

Any idea where to get them and what they might cost ?

Thanks for the thoughts!

Why do you need to replace it? Unless you live in the desert or in downtown NYC, I fail to see why you need to replace it.

i think he is asking if he can simpily add the air cabin air filter if he just buys the airfilter,(he didnt choose the option for cabin airfilter when new)

So,did you open it, and see if something is in it? if its a simple box, i would think it would work.

That's what I did for my 03 OBW. Just bought the filters and popped them in. Check out https://www.subarugenuineparts.com/product_info.php?cPath=22_27&products_id=347

I bought a "kit" that was comprised of two metal brackers that screw in into the blower hosing just aft the blower itself. And a metal lid with a rubber gasket to hold the filter in place. The brackets attach with self tapping screws and have fine threaded holes to secure the metal lid.

Had to cut out the plastic blanking plate.

It was an option offered on my 03 OBW but I did not have the dealer install them. I was told that my car would have the housing in place and all I had to do was to buy the filters(2 pieces for mine) and pop it in. Sure enough when I removed the glove box, there was a plastic cover for the filter housing held by screws. removed the screws, took the cover out, slid the new filters in, and re-installed everything else. Saved myself about $100 there.

I have since changed the filter and I was surprised at how dirty it was. Not sure how much of a difference it makes especially if you drive with the windows down. has someone measured air quality in a car before?

I purchased the filters (takes 2), popped them in and they fit perfectly.

Can't believe this was (i think) a $150 option. Cost me < $40 for the filters. If it helps keep the air coming in cleaner, maybe less dust ?

I'll let you know in about 12 months when I replace them! Thanks for everyone's replies.
