February 4, 200719 yr I have two 2.2's,one is my outbacks original,it has red fuel injectors. The replacement motor has gray fuel injectors,is there any signifigant difference? What is the difference if any? Would it be worth switching the red ones on to the motor in my car?
February 5, 200719 yr the only thing i know is that the red ones are late 91 and up, gray ones are 90 to late 91, both are for automatics. i'm not sure if they will work with the other ones MAF
February 5, 200719 yr There are slight differences in the nozzle type, which affects fuel flow for a given pulse length. You need to use the injectors that match up with the ECU you are using. If your current motor/ecu uses the red injectors, you should pull the fuel rails off and swap them over to the new motor. The other injectors will run, but I experienced very poor mileage and loss of power, which I contributed to the fact I was running richer then I should have been.

Thanks,that's kind of what I suspected,but I wasn't going to go through teh effort if there was no real difference. That's probably what's responsible for my occasional sputtering problem.
