February 20, 200719 yr thinking of putting them on my 90 legacy. just wanted to make sure i could use stock springs and tops. will their be any problems with brake hose length or any problems with allignment
February 20, 200719 yr i did that conversion to my long gone 95 legacy wagon and i did not have any problem with the brake lines. as long as you put the struts on the same place where the old ones where you should not need an alignment right away. dont forget to use a marker to mark where the old strus bolts are. however i am not sure the rear top hats will fit, you may need to swap and use the ones you have now, the front ones should be a str8 bolt in. good luck
February 20, 200719 yr Author i was going to use my springs and tops from my old struts. any problems with the sway bar?
February 21, 200719 yr nope no problems at all, i even went out to the Barrens and had no problems with it
February 21, 200719 yr Author last question ( i think). i looked up struts for a 97 outback and they have abs and non abs, does it matter which ones i get. my 90 is non abs
February 21, 200719 yr all the 97 outbacks came with abs, you'll just have an extra support for the abs wires but it should not matter, there is no difference in struts fitting between non abs and abs equiped. I'm doing a lift myself next month. getting forester struts on a impreza wagon
February 22, 200719 yr Hey PAMIKE di you get the struts? keep me posted, if ya need help on the swap i could give oyu a hand if you are not too far from Jersey, nothing more pricelss than seeing and helping a lift job
February 22, 200719 yr Author i didn't get them yet. i will probably let this guy i know that owns a garage do it. after i seen how hard the struts came off my other subie i don't think i wanna mess with it. he gives me great prices. your a little far from me i'm in pa.
February 22, 200719 yr I shouldnt be that hard to do it, why pay 150 or 200 if oyu can save that to get big tires!
February 27, 200719 yr Author where does the lift come from. i got them today and measured from bottom to the the spring pertch and got the same measuement on both old and new EDIT: went back to the parts store and found out they accedently gave me non outback struts. i'm getting the other ones tomorrow.
February 28, 200719 yr oh boy that wasnt good well the outback struts are definetely longer, if you line up the top end the bootms will be differnt, i'm glad you caught it before you stared installing it cheers Neo
March 1, 200719 yr Author whats a good size tire to run. i have 185/70/14's now. i'll probably stay with 14" wheels. i don't want to cut into the body. would a 27x8.5-14 be to big
March 1, 200719 yr you should definetely upgrade to 15's i was running 205 75 15's on my legacy right now i am running 205 70 15 on my impreza!!!! thats pretty fat for and unlifted impreza take pick take pics plllleeeeeeeaaassseee
March 1, 200719 yr Author i have a set of 15's on my other subaru, so i could switch the wheels. i was thinking of a 205/70/15. i won't have any problems with rubbing the struts will i. i think the 205's will be about a 26" i just found these http://www.tirerack.com/tires/tires.jsp?tireMake=Yokohama&tireModel=Geolandar+A%2FT-S&vehicleSearch=true&partnum=07SR5GEOATS&fromCompare1=yes&place=39&speed_rating=S&speed_rating=T&speed_rating=U&speed_rating=H&speed_rating=V&speed_rating=Z&speed_rating=W&speed_rating=Y
March 1, 200719 yr you wont have any problems, thats what i had on my leggo with outback struts now once you are all done with this, why dont you come out to jersey and join us in march at the pine barrens meet? remember if i am running that size on my impreza nonlifted you should be fine

March 3, 200719 yr see.... i told u so... its higher than a regular outback when u put the 15's on  so are u coming down to jersey on the 24th? with that lifted one?
March 3, 200719 yr Author probably not. i've been working alot of hours lately and saturdays 3rd shift. (cv axle rebuilder). however i will try to get pix. i have them on a cell phone, how do i get them on to the computer
March 4, 200719 yr if you have verizon you can text message it to your email address cool , i got my forester struts and i am installing them tomorrow if i can i'll post pics when i'm done
March 11, 200719 yr Author got it all done. general grabbers 205/75-15 and gold 15" subaru wheels. it is a very tight fit. i had to remove the plastic rocker panel protector on the rear of the panels. their is like an 1/8 clearance in the front of the rear tires. no rubbing though.
March 11, 200719 yr i'm done too i got a few things to address though, rear struts knocking and front CV axle, other than that all is good
March 13, 200719 yr mine is done too, http://www.ultimatesubaru.org/photos/showgallery.php?cat=975&ppuser=0  give us some pics!!!
