Legacy/Libery RS Water-to-Air Intercooler (WAIC)

Featured Replies

Does anyone know much about the water to air intercooler units used in Legacy RS? I am looking at buying one to put in my XT4 turbo (NZ spec - Vortex).

Specifically I want to know how the pump speeds are controlled. The pump supposedly runs low speed all the time, then moves to high speed when needed? What makes it move to high speed? Boost? Water temp in IC? Intake air temp before or after the IC? Is this controlled by a separate logic control or by the ECU?

If anyone has a Subaru FSM that includes the WAIC, any info from there would be awesome. Subaru usually seem to include good write-ups about how most systems work.

I wasnt aware of any speed control on the pump. where did you hear about that? the setup a local guy did he just took a hot off the AC plug cause he put the pump where the AC compressor was and used the condenser as a huge heat exchanger(radiator). If I had to guess I'd say that in the liberty RS the ecu controls it.

there are copies of the liberty RS FSM's on the net, you will have to search for them as I cant remember where. I think a site called ravensblade impreza has some fsms.

if you are in NZ you should be able to find a liberty RS FSM a bit easier than us in the US. try www.rslibertyclub.org

This will have all the info you need.

The pump is controlled by the ECU. The slower speed is acheived through a power resistor.

I bought just the intercooler portion of the AWIC setup for around $100 I think. Finding the entire kits with all the stuff is kind of rare...but you may find some on the legacycentral bbs www.bbs.legacycentral.org

Wow....that's a pretty good price.

I've been looking for the stock radiator for the AWIC setup for some time. All the ones I end up finding are dinged up. I'd love to find one in good shape so I can increase my cooling capacity.
