March 11, 200719 yr Ok, so I'm finally getting all the small nit-picky stuff tuned on my RX with the Megasquirt. However, I am having to idle it very rich: anything between 10.5 and 12.0 and it idles perfect. Anything above 12.5 and it starts a dead miss randomly...and at 14.7 it wont idle at all. Now, EJ engines idle perfect with 13.5 and ~13 deg of timing. I tried that, and nothing. Has anyone see anything similar to this? Different? Do tell.
March 11, 200719 yr Could be poor fuel vaporisation..... when it is rich there is more likelihood of there being pockets of stoic mixture... Something is a bit weird, it shouldn't idle well at all if the af ratio is really 10:1.....
March 11, 200719 yr How clean are the injectors? One or more might not be atomizing the fuel as well as it could, and so its making it difficult to keep a good fuel mixture. Also, how big are the injectors? Some bigger injectors aren't able to supply smaller amounts of fuel like you might need during idle.
March 12, 200719 yr Author 550CC evo injectors. A stock evo idles perfect as we know... I had this same problem on the stock 185CC injectors. However, I did not have this problem on the stock ECU....
March 12, 200719 yr Are you factoring in the cold idle control doohicker? I don't know the actual name for it, it's a thermostatically controlled valve that is on top of the thermostat housing, has a somewhat large hose coming out if it that goes to the throttle body. It's my understanding that this controls the idle enrichment when the engine is cold, and it's a thermostatic device not a computer device, AFAIK, this might be something to check, especially if the megasquirt has some sort of cold engine enrichment program.
March 12, 200719 yr Author Its ecu controlled as well...for when the AC is on. That peice is no longer on my RX.
March 12, 200719 yr All's that doohickey does is let more air past the throttle plate when the engine is cold. It would cause a change in MAP reading which MS should be able to compensate for. That wouldn't be the problem here.
