Air Conditoning System Identification

Featured Replies

Hello all. I am trying to find the correct A/C condenser for my 1985 Brat. I didn't think it was going to be so difficult, but it's turning out to be. I ordered one from one of those auto parts places online. There were several part numbers to choose from, so the guy finally asked me for my VIN number in order to identify the right one, but I had to send it back because it was the wrong one. Then I figured I would just call the Subaru dealer, even if was twice the price, then at least I would be getting the right part. They seemed very unsure also. They said it could be a Hitachi, Panasonic, or Wynns. Anyone have any idea on this one? Thanks!

i take it you dont have one in there now?

from what i understand some systems were factory installed and some were dealer installed.. although i may have been supplied with bad info..

hitachi is more commonly a factory peice from what i've heard..

if you have pics.. post 'em..

O.K. I got the correct A/C condenser for my 1985 BRAT from the dealer and the part number on the box is SOA-203-530. It looks like it's built ALOT better than the old one that was on there. He confirmed what you said about the A/C systems being dealer installed. Actually what he said was "they were installed at Port", meaning when they arrived off the boat in the U.S.A. According to him, when he searched on his computer for the availability there were only four of these A/C condensers in the whole country.
