No resistance on IACV

Featured Replies

I am getting no resistance when i test the 2nd and 1st pin on my IACV connecotr. I do get 9 ohms when testing the 2nd and 3rd pin, but none on the 1 and 2 pins. What do I do??

I am getting a fluctuating idle and a rough idle (the reason why I tested it in the first place).

I checked my data on this and it looks like you should have about 10 ohms each between 1 an 2 and 2 an 3. With 12 volts across 1 and 2 the solenoid should be fully open and with 12 volts between 2 and 3 it should be fully closed. Time for a new solenoid, the coil is open between pins 1 and 2.

I am testing the female end of the connector. The part where the 3 wires attach to the plastic clip. Shouldn't I just need a new clip or wires??

I assume all three wires that are tied to the connector tie to the solenoid also. If that is correct and there isn't any break in the external wire connections then the solenoid is broken internally.

I tested the solenoid side. Got 10.0 and 9.7 on the 2 sides. So, this isn't exactly 9.0, which Haynes recomends. But you're saying 10.0. Could this be causing the problem? Is this a positive test for having to buy a $400 part? I am thinking its a fuel problem or a wire (opposite iacv) problem.

The small difference in readings is not really a concern. The fact that you have continuity about the same on both sides is good. This means the valve is ok electrically at least. You should now test it using 12 volts on each side, one at a time, to see if it is closing and opening as it should be, using pin 2 as the common lead tied to +12 volts. If it isn't then you may need to clean it out so it can work correctly.

My data shows that pin 1 of the solenoid goes to pin 14 of the ECU and pin 3 goes to pin 13 on the ECU. Pin 2 ties to power.
