...anything difficult about it? I've managed to locate an almost completely intact (engine bay wise) non-turbo XT 4WD in a local pick'n'pull, voila there's my new Spyder intake mani! Is there any major alteration to be made when stuffing it into an '88 EA82T in my RX? Aside from the obvious like fabbing TB-to-MAF (or to TMIC) piping? So far at the yard I've pulled the top half of the intake off, not realizing til I got started that the Spyder is apparently two-piece as opposed to the single-piece casting of the one on my engine. I can't tell just from looking whether I'm going to need anything besides the upper and lower casting with TB or if I'll need any of the other stuff attached to the lower part [anyone confused yet? :lol: ]. What I guess I'm getting at is:

do I need to grab the injector lines and anything else also, or is this a fairly straight forward swap? Thanks, slap me for babbling later.

the intake will come off in one piece. mainly the tougfh thing to figure out is the water passage piping.

 

all the harness will come up with the intake.

make sure you get the pitch stoper with bracket to the trans, the heater pape from the water pump, the throtle cable, and the bracket for the timeing on the crank pulley (you cant see the flywheel very well with the spider on)

 

the thing you need to check is the wiring harness. dose it have two black plugs one round and one squair? or is one black and one white but both round?

&*%Q# yes you need the pitch stopper. TRUST me. Check the plugs like Dave said (I made both the harness and the pitch stopper mistakes today)

You basically want it all. The Auxillary Air Valve is different and you will need that. The tube that goes to the water pump under the manifold, on a Spyder it has an extra little tube in it.

Hi all from Australia , I dont think we had too many if any spider EA82 turbo engines so does anyone have any pictures of the parts required ? I may have a bare inlet manifold on the way but other bits are probably going to be hard to get here . Is it actualy the inlet manifold that is heated or are there soft lines to heat the throttlebody only ?

PS were there any other performance enhancements aside from the inlet manifold and possibly the flange hole where the turbo mounts to the up pipe ?

you can leave those off anyway. i actually remove those "heating" lines and bypass the throttle body, they aren't necessary. i drive in below 0F weather and no problems. it's going to be tricky finding out all the gadgets you need from a picture. i had a hard time with that as well even living here. i swapped from turbo to non-turbo and needed to figure out all those differences. it was annoying finding the bits i needed and where things go..and it's still not perfect yet. is it turbo or not, they have different gadgets and vaccuum routings on them. guess it's the turbo RX in your list?

if its an NA intake, you'll need to plumb in a coolant line for the turbo, pull the harness out of your old intake for the knock sensor and repin it into the spyder harness and figure out the AAV plumbing. I used an NA intake from a '88 XT and had a few things to do to it before it worked for me, but now I despise EA82Ts and so I no longer have the setup.

Mines an Aus spec L series RX Turbo meaning the earlier vane type air flow metre . What I'm not sure about is how the fuel rails and 101 vacum lines are like compared to those on the garden variety EA82 turbo engine .

 

By despise EA82T I get the feeling that you went to a bit of effort to use the best factory bits available and the results weren't there for you .
