Spider Manifold T/NA differences ?

Featured Replies

Hi all , I have an EA82 spider inlet manifold and need to know if its turbo or NA type . I think the give away could be the steel pipe running from the "bowl area" underneath the thermostat housing back to a rubber hose , would this be the turbos top water fitting . My turbo RX with the garden variety manifold appears to work like this so I guess I have the right spider manifold ?

Cheers A .

Yeah that tube is fo rthe turbo and NA spyders don't have it. Do you have the Waterpump bypass return hose? The one going from the heater hose back under intake to the waterpump. Spyder cars there is an extra line brazed into that tube for the throttle body coolant return line.

No unfortunately I don't have that or the steady bar either . This manifold has no TBody or any pipework so have to find or make some . Actually there is a piece of rubber hose pointed back off an odd looking section on the water crossover flat ally pipe . It does a step upwards and points back at what would be the drivers side of a USDM car (mine is RHD in Australia) . Heater pipe ?

Does anyone have a pick of the Vortex (XT ?) engine steady bar or its forward mount anway . If I can't find one we may have to make something and an example would be good , can the std RX one be rejigged with a bit of fabrication ?

Are all EA82T injectors the same ie early/late/vane AFM/MAF AFM ?

Also to fill in some gaps , I may try to make some kind of adapter so I can retain the std early type MPFI TBody and switch .

Any hints very welcome , thanks Adrian in Aus .

Here we call it the pitch stopper I guess. But.. the steady bar as you say is held by two plates bolted at their base through the holes on top of the transmission that look like a spine. The pitch stopper bar is basically the same but shorter. Ands you could probably fabricate two triangular plates to hold a shortened RX one.

I believe the Injectors are the same

As far as the Throttle body you almost have to retain the early style RX TPS at least. The (xt)Vortex TPS uses a potentiometer with a 4 wire connection. If you have the flapper MAF then you're TPS uses just an idle and a full throttle switch with 3 wires. And you can't bolt that TPS straight to the spider TB because it rotates the oposite way! Plus you don't have the TB??

*disclaimer: This all is what would be the case for USDM. you're AUS stuff may vary

Yes was thinking of making a short stand off pipe if you know what I mean to adapt differing TB flange patterns . I also have been told the early RX TB's throttle quadrant fouls on the pnenum casting so yes needs to be spaced out . LOL may still get spare wheel under bonnet and RS water IC !

Thanks and cheers Adrian .

Adrian,

I have a steady bar bracket here I have not installed yet.

If you want I will send you pictures and dimensions.

If so PM or email me.

Hey skip, you gonna use that bracket? wanna sell it?

Sorry, G it is intended for my RX project.

Thats what I figured, but though I'd ask.

Well I went out to my EA82 manifold dept.

Thought I'd find the part but... I guess I need

to do some "riddin' up"

Did find it and here are the measurements

it is stamped steel about 0.11" in thickness

He's got a complete manifold ... sigh .

what do you need? i have 3 compleat manifolds. i may ship if the price is right, i dont know what it would cost to ship the whole thing to AUS.

I have basically a bare turbo manifold so I need just about everything that goes with it . The waterpump pipe and turbo - throttlebody hose would be great as well .

And then there's the bits to make a pointer for the crank pulley too .

Cheers A in Aus .
