June 15, 200718 yr ok so i was tinkering with my newe boost gauge and the waist gate well i pluged off tghe waist gait comleatly and took the car down the street about a block. well in that period of time somthing blew off likea vacule line or somthing because now when i reach about 4 to 5 pounds of boost it blows out somewhere what could it be ??? its an 86 turbo wagon ea82 thanks alot guys Rob:burnout:
June 15, 200718 yr In the sage words of Sir Edrach. Please proof read and check for spelling errors before posting. Please accept this as gentle criticism not condemnation. As for your problem, check the intake to throttle body plenum. (the plenum is the aluminum part that says "Subaru Turbo" on it) I have had this happen when the clamp is not tight enough. To test if this is your problem, with the engine not running try lifting the plenum. I will not warn you that operating your car with the waste gate disconnected is asking for blown headgaskets or worse, as I am sure you are aware of this.
June 15, 200718 yr Without the wastegate solenoid connected, the actual gate is free to flop open all it wants. It relies on the solenoid to keep it pulled closed. it's surprising you get any boost.
June 15, 200718 yr Sorry G this is not correct The waste gate actuator has an internal spring that holds it in the closed position. The waste gate duty solenoid is located on the inner fender in front of the pass side strut tower.

The waste gate duty solenoid is located on the inner fender in front of the pass side strut tower. My bad. Point taken. I was talking about the actuator. But I think Gurus car is an 86 so it doesn't have a solenoid. The actuator is connected straight to the pressurized portion of intake. Mechanical(non-computerized) boost control. So i'm assuming that what he did was remove the actuator, and if so then the wastegate is free to flap in the breeze.
June 15, 200718 yr all kewl G I read "ok so i was tinkering with my newe boost gauge and the waist gate well i pluged off tghe waist gait comleatly" after deciphering this I just figured he plugged the line to the actuator. Good way to make fragile HG go poof IMHO
June 16, 200718 yr Author ok so i checked around the intake and all and nothing is loose idk what it could be. could i have blown a seal on an Ijector unit ?? or somthing like that damn i cna still drive it but i dont want to screw anything up. (the reson i my mispel words or not put periods is because im usualy in a hurry im working on it though) Thanx Rob:burnout:

Don't keep driving with no wastegate actuator or without it hooked up! Check the one way valve in the vaccum line going to the reserve tank. There is a huge load placed on it to resist the pressure in the intake. Blow through it both ways, it should only pass air in one direction. This is just a thought.
June 18, 200718 yr Author ok os i checked that and no go i hooked the gate back up it still leaks so i went in and it sounds as if it is commin from the gaskit under that like under the throttle body could that be it??? has any one ever had this gaskit go out
