Gear indicator on 95 Legacy

Featured Replies

Should there be a gear indicator on the dashboard of a 95 AWD Legacy L? I didn't get an owners manual with the car and I don't see it between the gauges so I don't know if either it isn't there or maybe a bulb burned out. btw, this car has an auto tranny.

Also, there is a P switch on the steering column. Can someone please tell me what that is for?

Thanx,

Peter

The bulbs are probably gone in the dash, but it is possible that the 95 did not have a transmission indicator?

In 95 Subaru really decontented the Legacy, owners complained and Subaru returned with items like individual door ajar indicators in 96.

The P switch is for parking lights. Press it and the parking lights will stay on even with the key out.

All cars are required to be able to have there parking lights on with the key out. It is to be used when parking on a dark road to avoid having your car hit.

You can normally run the parking lights for many hours without a significant drain on the battery.

The only indication of what gear you're in on the MY95 Legacy L is on the console by the shifter. It should be backlit.

Our MY95 has the door adjar indicator on the dashboard-dead center towards the top.

So the 4EAT position indicator was another item on the 94 model that went missing in 95, only to return in 96?

I guess Subaru swapped the folding mirrors on the 95 for the fixed breakable type on the 96 to pay for the 4EAT indicator....

The 95 has a single door ajar indicator, while the 89-94 and 96-current models indicate which particular door is ajar.

Yep, the door ajar light isn't as helpful as the newer ones that indicate the exact location as on our '01.

I do like the folding mirrors though...
