I have a 93 Legacy with manual transmission. When working in the engine compartment the section of the cable right above transmission came apart (looks like it was already loose to begin with). I've been trying to reconnect it but its a real pain since there is not much play in the cable. Thought I had it once but it barley worked and then the speedometer quit working.

I was wondering if the small section connected to the transmission can be removed to give me some room to work with? I removed the plastic bolt\screw but the cable seemed pretty snug in the transmission so I didn't want to pull to hard and break something so I thought I would check first since the service manual is pretty vague.

Thanks,

Bob

there a real pain in the rump roast, you just need to push it in, but the end needs to go in square, so you need to keep spinning it to certain possitions till it goes in farther then it did before, then it should be fine. I had to retry pushing it in like 10 times when i replaced my speedocable.
