I can see through the dim!

Featured Replies

Hello all! I have a question, I have a 2004 subaru legacy 35th anniversary edition sedan, love it just washed and waxed it and detailed the inside, looks showroom again! So I have a compass/autodim mirror with it and it seems like it is in autodim all the time, when I turn the button off it goes back to regular mode but it seems to stay in dim mode all the time now. Can some one please tell me if this is ok or is it? It is going to the dealer saturday for a oil change and having my brakes checked and this issue with my auto dim. I would appreciate some feedback on this. thanks.

It thinks it's night time ALL the time. The front sensor is dirty or blocked. Clean it with a damp q-tip.

Front sensor is on what we call the rear of the mirror ( facing the front of the vehicle toward the passenger side ) you will feel a small indent and at the bottom of it is the front sensor. It lets the mirror know when it's daylight and not to dim. Blocked or dirty, it can no longer "see the light".

Thanks man, so it doesnt seem like it is crapping out on me then right? I am kinda of confused I am looking at the sensor on the rear facing out right its not the button i turn off right , the sensor is located next to it it looks like a glass eye? This is on the inside facing me youare talking about it facing out the windshield. hit me back man.:burnout:

Yes, the side facing the windshield. This is the sensor for night and day. The one by the button you see is to let the mirror know when there is light from behind and to dim.

So the front facing one sees dark, rear sees light .... mirror dims.

Front facing sees dark, rear also dark .... mirror normal so you can see in the dark.

Front facing sees light ..... no dimming

Also there is a wire attached to the backup lights, so when you put the car in reverse, no matter what the lighting conditions, the mirror is normal. No auto-dimming.
