It sounds as if I'll need to replace a half-shaft in the near future. I would like to use silicone boots for maximum durability. Anyone know of a dealer?

Carquest lists an upgrade for 80-89 boots. It is ARI part#42-62298 and are said to be high-temp silicone. Its in this technical service bulletin I found.
