Sounds like firecrackers

Featured Replies

obviously I know that's not what the noise is... but when I'm accelerating, I hear *clackity clackity clack* under my hood. Only happens when it's warmed up.

A mechanic at work rode with me and heard it and took a look at my oil pressure. Then he said... "sounds like your timing is too advance." And then he told me it wasn't all that great for the engine. So now I'm wondering why I can't get the timing right on 20 deg. It's either 25 or 15. Or somewhere around there. Apparently there's a tooth on the disty I'm missing.

So is it better to just run it at 15 or 25? it runs like crap at 15, runs ok at 25. but whatever's best for the engine, that's what I'll run it at.

Is it a turbo? Only turbos are advanced to +20.

SPFI runs at 20 as well.

Play with the distributor. Mine took forever to dial in 20 degrees. Also, make sure you're doing this with the green diagnostic connectors connected. If you want to run 25 degrees, try a higher octane gas.
