Intake on an EJ18???

Featured Replies

I am thinking on putting an intake on Pheebie ( my 93 Imp) ..I am really inpressed with her..she moves pretty good but dies out on hills ( I have been kinda spoiled running my XT6 for so long) But ..what would I gain by putting an intake on her?? Pros Cons? suggestions on which one to get without spending a fortune?

She gets her new RS hood this weekend and I added some small mulitcolored spectrum fog lights on her...She is now equipt with Sirius Satellite radio ( should have gotten that along time ago). I still have to clean up her new rims and swap her tires ( she will be strutting XT6 salad slicers) But she is coming along nicely.

Probably wouldn't gain much. The EJ18 is only rated at something around 115hp.

Will definately benefit from removing the snorkus from the inner fender well...Full cold air intake for a 2.2 will fit but it will take away some of the bottom end grunt, in exchange for top end.... I'd just cut the snorkus out and maybe open up the airbox a little bit, get rid of the stupid hose that's inside of it and figure out a better way to draw the air in out of the inner fender well than that stupid hose that sticks out halfway into the airbox.

EJ22 swaps into an EJ18 pretty easy. Austin did that to his wagon right? That will help a bit on the hills. More than the cold air intake will. But untill then, pull off the intake silencer inside the pasenger side fender. It's a 10mm nut that holds it on, doesn't take much to pull it out of there. At the least the extra intake noise gives the butt-dyno horsepower figures a boost.

www.cosmoracing.com has a selection for under $60 IIRC.

It will take away from low end a bit, but it'll sound friggin cool. Just make sure to stiffen the intake, with a bracket of some sort or risk vibrations damaging the maf. And stay away from oiled filters.

Checked it out...$118 and its outta stock. I am not going to swap out the motor in it cause the car just really isnt worth it...Its just my DD cause the parking lot at work has super small spaces ( if you drive anything larger then ..say a Ranger..your wheels are on both lines) and there are constant reports of people hitting others cars with their doors etc...I was in panic mode for 2 weeks having to bring Rocky in...thats why I rushed getting the Imp legal...she is already dinged up enough on the sides.

Think I will just add a CA Intake to the XT6..doesnt do anything for them but make them sound good..and look good too.

Might swap an EJ22 into Bucky though ( my Loyale)..he wasnt sounding to good yesterday when I took him for a spin
