I'm afaraid that I've been made a believer.

 

I have a new Hitachi Carb on a EA71 engine, and it will not run correctly. I bought what I thought was th right carb for this engine. Subarus are so cool, but I had no Idea what I was getting into with this Hitachi.

 

I wanted to know a little more about the Weber Carbs. Just tell me, Is it like a normal carb with a fuel line in only. If it has 2 million vacuum lines and crap I really don't want to deal with it. Does it need to be retrofitted?

 

I've been at this for months with the Hitachi. I don't want all of the emissions crap, so I guess that I HAVE to go with a Weber? Is this true, or can I modify and plug lines to the Hitachi?

Thanks, you seem very knowledgable about how to use the internet. Does this Search engine that you speak of have a Carter Weber carb?

 

Really, does someone with knowledge know if I can bolt up the Weber carb to the EA71, and how many Vac attachments does it have?

Some people just don't know when not to speak. First off Hitachis are a real PITA but Carter-Webers are even more of a pain. A regular Weber like a 32/36 are easy and a great upgrade for our little Subies. On the EA71 however, it needs to be rejetted to something a bit smaller because the EA71 doesn't have quite the fuel consumption as the EA81 which would flood it out. I had this problem on my old EA71 because I had it adjusted up too rich. The same adapter plate used for the EA81 can be used for the EA71 as well. I ran a Holley 5200 (made by Weber) which I rejetted to a 28/32 but it ran a bit richer because I was also running a JDM high compression EA71 which was much quicker then my stock EA71 but it only like to run with Plus in it:rolleyes:

My point is that it HAS been done, and just about any 4 cylinder engine has been run on a weber. Do a bit of searching and you turn up a goldmine of previous peoples experiences, which will teach you a lot more than your own new thread here; you get to learn from the mistakes others have made by reading old threads. If you just post your own, there is no telling whether you will hear everything there is to say about it.

 

Weber carburetors (the DGV, not the carter-weber that has come stock on some of these cars) are GREAT machines that function WONDERFULLY. As such, about three BILLION OF THEM have been installed. That is ALOT of experience to ignore.

 

Some of us spend time writing what we hope to be exhaustive write-ups on these types of frequently discussed subjects. Having little carburetor experience firsthand, I haven't written any of these.. but it IS exasperating to see the same topic come up weekly. I hate to be rude, but don't you also hate to be rude? Discussion is one thing; starting from scratch is a different issue altogether.
