'82 Brat tune up

Featured Replies

I'm launching into a day of wrenching tomorrow on the Brat, so far my "to-do" list is as follows

- Check and top off all fluids

- Oil change

- Valve rocker adjustment

- New spark plugs

- Remove rattling heat shields

- Inspect and replace (if needed) exhaust manifold gaskets

- Test battery and charging system

- Check and adjust timing

- Check and adjust tire pressure

- Inspect distributor/rotor/cap

- Inspect plug leads (replace as soon as I can get new ones)

- Add Rislone to the trans to try and help my 'crunchy' synchros, I assume I'm looking for the oil treatment?

Anything I'm missing that I should do while I'm at it? The only thing that I'm not sure of the time needed is going to be the valve rocker adjustment. All the rest I figure shouldn't be much different from any other vehicle.

Getting some NGK 7133's at lunch (anyone got a better suggestion?), as well as some anaerobic sealant for the valve cover gaskets (have 2 sets of new gaskets at home) will also grab a fuel filter if the parts store has one in stock.

if you're playing with the valves do you have new valve cover gaskets? good to replace if you're taking them off anyway unless they've been done recently and flexible enough to reseal.

Yep, got 2 sets...

yeah (DUH) missed the parenthases.

if you are going to check the exhaust gaskets you might as well buy new ones the are inexpensive and so then you dont have to do it later.

Yeah, I'm going to visually check to see if there's any visible blow outs in it and I'm gonna order new gaskets at lunch
