October 15, 200718 yr Quick question: does the oil have to be drained before removing the valve covers, or can i just take them off without losing all of my oil on the ground? Thanks
October 15, 200718 yr You can take the valve covers off without draining the oil. All the oil sits in pan well below the valve covers.
October 15, 200718 yr No oil draining required. Main valve cover removal tips are clean the surrounding area thorougly; any grit on the old gasket or around the valve cover will promptly fall onto the rockers when the valve cover is removed otherwise. Of course new valve cover gaskets, bolt hole washers, and spark plug tube seals (if your engine has them) are good.
