November 7, 200718 yr I know that i need to replace my driverside front cv shaft because its clicking. but is it normal for this clicking to go away after 5 minutes of driveing. Since its getting colder i notice it more but only for the 1st 5 minutes then after that when i turn or go around corners its gone. Any ideas. Ben
November 7, 200718 yr Simple. It's clicking, so replace it. Mine doesnt even click, I still have to replace it. I don't know if yours is 2WD... but if it is, and you snap the axle...
November 8, 200718 yr Author no mine is 4wd but there are 3 problems in order of greatest to least 1. Money. On top of cv shaft i need to replace ball joints and while im at it i might as well replace the wheel bearings as well. She also needs braks but i think i can wait until next summer. 2. Time. Maybe you havent seen but i recently had twin daughters so i dont even have time to get out and have fun let alone tear apart a car. 3. Space. I live in an apartment so it cant be in pieces for to long, also its my only ride to work. 4. Lack of skills. Not really stopping me from trying it but none the less it is a problem. And with winter coming up it will make all of these even harder to come buy. Ben
November 8, 200718 yr Yikes! with all that, I would put it off. It's a bit of a risk, but it'll probably last for months.
November 8, 200718 yr If its 4wd, and the axle breaks, pull it off the tranny output, and leave the outer stub in the knucke, put in 4wd and your good to go in rwd.
November 9, 200718 yr i hope its not an auto 4x4, dont try running in in 4 wheel drive with out a front shaft (auto trans only) its very hard on the rear clutch pack
