  1. Have you checked all the fuses under the dash? I can't remember which one it isc number 5 i think it is, that will cause the symptoms your describing.
  2. Finally got a couple more 6 lug wheels drilled out so I now have a spare tire again.
  3. Get your radiator cleaned out by a reputable radiator shop or replace it. Flush out your heater core. I like to fill it up with CLR and let sit for 15minutes or so and back flush, and repeat a few more times.A clogged heater core will give you overheating issues. Replace the t stat with one from the dealer only. Make sure water pump is flowing properly. And make sure you have a shroud around the clutch fan. Go through all this, and your car should run cool. The cooling systems on these cars are the weak link, and any issues turn bigger real quick if let go for too long. I have single row radiators in both my cars, My 91 runs cool on the hottest days with the ac, and my 89 runs cool runnin all day on the trail in the heat here.
  4. Stay away from the fram filters. Cut one open and youl see why. I run purolator filters, they are cheap, and are of much better quality than the frams.
  5. Yep, had one do this to me before, alt getting way hotter that it should be, Replace it with a known good one.
  6. About like anything else on the motor. Snug, but not super crazy godzilla tight. Never had any issues.
  7. How well did the half inch seem to work? I'm slowly in the process of making spacers with some steel I have around, and was just thinking the other day bout trying just a half inch.
  8. The bushings in the linkage are probably shot. Had the same issue in my 89, only things would hit the driveshaft. Replaced all the bushings but one, on that one I used a piece of hose as a bushing. Its still sloppy, but at least it isn't hitting the driveshaft, which is good enough for that car
  9. Yeah, most any thing is gonna stick out. The outback stereo doesn't look the best in there, but I couldn't beat the great price of free. Well, actually I did buy some super cheap speakers to toss in the doors.
  10. You can make it work. I have an outback stereo in my 89. you need to use the outback wireing and the EA82 wiring and make one harness out of them. Yes it does stick out of the dash about an inch and a half, and makes use of the ashtray a little tougher, but it works.
  11. Yeah, I like the black on that car. Was wanting to do this on my wheeler, And it's about the same color. My hatch needs to be painted anyway, as its white and the rest of the car is red.
  12. I'm going with spacers, and I guarantee you mine ain't no mall crawler. I haven't had any funny tire wear, but I'm not about to baby my car either. Swapping axles out every month or two has gotten old, and like I said before I didn't lift the car to be a mall crawler
  13. You have a leak somewhere. My 91 does the same thing. It don't smoke all the time, just every now and then. I figured it's oil pooling up in spots, then blowing back onto the exhaust once enough oil accumulates on the crossmember.
  14. I'm gonna do this on my 2" lifted car. I haven't really noticed any funny tire wear, but I am tired of tearing axleboots every couple of months. And driving this car like a grandma, well, that just ain't gonna happen.
  15. I did one backi in the fall. We flipped it over on the roof to get what was left under it off, than slid it up on a small trailer on its roof, and hauled it upside down.
  16. I have the inexpensive harbor freight stand. You have to get a little creative to make it wirk. I can take a pic of how mine is set up, I actually have a ea82 on it as I type this.
  17. The engine stand works great, as you can turn the motor sideways. I havealways used anarobic saeler on the cam cases
  18. I don't belive that a "quick strut" is available for the subarus. Your best bet is to rent a spring compressor, and compress the spring to remove it from the old strut and install on new strut.
  19. Yes! This will work, and is only 8 bolts. My 89 didn't have the rear part of the driveshaft and drove just fine.
  20. Pull out the rear axles instead of the drive shaft. You can move it all you want that way, not lose any oil from the trans, and just the rear wheels will spin when towing it.
  21. Sounds like what mines was doing. Pushing coolant out of the system. And coolant smells of exhaust bad. If your gonna fix it, do it right and replace the head gaskets, don't dump head gasket in a bottle crap in there.
  22. And they are out!! Thank you all for the ideas! I heated the head up with a heat gun, used duster with the can turned upside down to freeze the lifter, and griped it with vicegrips, and gave them a few good whacks with the hammer and the finally came out! No damage to lifters, and no damage to the head! Woohoo
