First, I would like to thank everyone for their guidance in making this possible.

 

I have just finished installing a 5spd XT6 FT4WD transmission in my 94 Loyale (which took all weekend) and I would like to share my experience.

 

The only parts I really needed to buy were 25 spline XT turbo driveshafts (used 4WD 5spd). Other parts included new pilot and release bearings, clutch disk, and rear main seal.

 

The swap itself was actually quite easy, but I did encounter the following issues.

 

Rewire the 4wd indicator switch on the tranny to accept the Loyale harness - just cut and solder 2 wires...

 

Modify the exhaust hanger bracket on the rear of the tranny (move about 1 inch towards the driver’s side)

 

Shifter linkage is different as the FT tranny is longer at the shifter mount – I would recommend getting the linkage from a ft4wd gl-10 (or XT if that would fit?). I chose to cut and weld my current linkage but this seems to have given me issues with shifting that I’ll look into soon (binding and such)

 

The car feels so much better now, drives smoother and feels more solid, and no more wheelspin! Once the shifter issue is worked out it should be perfect.

Now to wait for snow.....

 

 

If anyone has a set of shift linkage that will fit this setup, I'd like to buy if you want to sell....

Ok. After re-adjusting the shift linkage (it was hitting the driveshaft...hehe) all gears work fine, except 4th. When shifting to 4th it will feel like it locked in but as soon as I give it some power it pops out.

 

I have checked the linkage again and it doesn't seem to be binding, I have strengthened the spring/ball assemby that holds the shifter in position but it still does this. Only when I shift to 4th with *authority* does it stay in fine - if I shift lightly it will pop.

 

After doing some research on this subject I have found people blame the synchro rings, however I do not see how this could cause the gear to pop since all they do is equalize gear speed as the collar slips into position.

 

What could be causing this??

 

On a somewhat related note has anyone had a positive experience with oil additives that help weak synchro rings (1st gear this time)?

i've heard of some folks using Redline gear oil for worn syncros..i also seem to remember somebody mentioning replacing one quart gear oil with one quart Risolone(sp?) to help out sticky syncros. im sure the thread could be found with a search.
